Step by Step

First Layer
First step: Import the original picture of hibiscus flower, use the pen tool to trace one of the petals and the filament. I must fill the stroke colour otherwise, I can't see the line. (you can see the red tracing line if you click this picture). Then, select the original hibiscus picture and click delete because i don't want to use it anymore.
Second step: I choose red colour for petal and, yellow and blue for the filament from the drop down button.
Third step: I use the blob brush tool, size 14pt to make the line in the middle of petal. I change the line opacity t0 47. Now, it's look like a petal of a hibiscus.

Fourth step: Select the petal, then click at symbol panel to create the new symbol. I named it as hibiscus. This is because I want to use the petal for several times.

Fifth step: I drag the petal symbol from the symbol panel to arrange them, select 3 of them , right click the mouse then choose 'transform', 'reflect' then choose vertical to make the petal to be an opposite side. I put the filament together with these petals to make them just like a hibiscus. Then, select them all ,hold the 'ctrl' on keyboard then press 'G' to make them in a group. This is to make sure that they will stick together when i drag them.

Second Layer

First step: Import the Huawei logo, I just want the text from the logo. So, I click 'object' from menu bar, choose 'live trace' , 'make and convert to paint'.

Second step: I can't just use this paint because the symbol and the text are stick together. The only thing that i need from this logo is the text. So, I select the logo, right click on mouse, choose 'ungroup', then, double click at this logo to make them in 'isolation mode', then select the text and copy but before paste them, double click again to exit from isolation mode.

Third step: Now, i get the plain text without colour. So, i choose CMYK blue colour to fill the text.

Fourth step: I just drag the new text, arrange it below the petals and filament to complete my logo.

Theme : Culture

I did some research to collect the information about the local (Malaysia) culture as much as i can. Ya, it's quite hard to find the perfect element of the culture to depict it into the chosen logo but it's a challenge that i have to face to complete my task. Here, some research that i have done.

Official Symbols - Bunga Raya (Hibiscus Flower)

The national flower of Malaysia is the hibiscus, or bunga raya. The flower is found in abundance throughout the country, and for this very reason, was chosen to be the national flower (in 1960) by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

There are many varieties of the hibiscus, but the five-petaled Hibiscus rosa sinensis was chosen above the others, as the most symbolically relevant. The five petals of the bunga raya symbolise theRukunegara (the Five Principles of Nationhood), while the colour red represents courage.

Flag of Malaysia - Jalur Gemilang (Stripes of Glory)

The flag of Malaysia, also known as the Jalur Gemilang ("Stripes of Glory"), comprises a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes along the fly and a blue canton bearing a crescent and a 14-point star known as the Bintang Persekutuan or Federal Star. The 14 stripes, of equal width, represent the equal status in the federation of the 13 member statse and the federal government, while the 14 points of the star represent the unity between these entities. The crescent represents Islam, the country's official religion; the blue canton symbolizes the unity of the Malaysian people; the yellow of the star and crescent is the royal colour of the Malay rules. In blazon, the Malaysian flag is described as: "A banner Gules, seven bars Argent; the canton Azure charged with decrescent and mullet of fourteen points Or." This means "a red flag with seven horizontal white stripes; the upper-left (hoist) quarter is blue with a yellow waning crescent (i.e. horns pointing to sinister) and a yellow 14-pointed star."

Logo that i choose...

This is the logo that I choose. Huawei's logo reflects its principles of customer-focus, innovation, steady and sustainable growth, and harmony, conveying Huawei's sincere commitment to helping its customers realize network transformation and launch a variety of competitive services through continuous innovation and an enterprising spirit. With the introduction of the new visual identity, Huawei will develop more steadily in an international and professional direction, focus increasingly on customers, and grow in a healthy way by creating a harmonious business environment together with its customers, partners and peers.

The Huawei Brand Signature exists in both vertical and horizontal formats. Always use the preferred vertical version over the horizontal version, except in special circumstances. The Brand Signature includes an icon and the name, HUAWEI. The characters in the Brand Signature have been created for our exclusive use. The Brand Signature must never be modified in any way (i.e. do not squash, stretch or try to re-draw it). It must appear against a correct and uncluttered legible colored background. When selecting a background color, care should be taken to ensure legibility.

but, i still want to change the colour and re-draw it because this is my assignment.. hahaha
